Is it worth renting a scooter in Phuket or should I stick to Grab and taxis?
First time in Phuket for two weeks. Not a confident rider. Is a scooter necessary to get around?

It depends on your confidence and where you are staying. Phuket traffic and the hills can be intimidating and accidents are common, so if you are not an experienced rider, Grab and taxis are the safer choice for a two-week trip. If you do ride, always wear a helmet, make sure you have a licence that covers motorbikes and check your travel insurance covers it.

For a longer stay a scooter saves a lot of money and hassle. For two weeks as a nervous rider I would not bother, Grab is easy in most tourist areas.
