Saying thank you in Thai

The phrase every visitor should know first is khob khun (ขอบคุณ), thank you. Add the polite particle at the end and a woman says khob khun kha (ขอบคุณค่ะ) while a man says khob khun khrap (ขอบคุณครับ). That polite version is your default in Phuket: shops, restaurants, taxis and hotels.

With close friends the tone softens and the ending relaxes, so thanks sounds more casual and everyday. Both are friendly, the difference is simply how formal the moment is.

Say it with a small smile and a slight nod and you will get a warm response almost everywhere. This short Thai reel puts the polite and casual versions side by side so you can copy the pronunciation and the tone.
