Two Ways to Say Sad in Thai

Not all sadness is the same
Thai has more than one word for sad, and picking the right one changes the feeling. Sia jai (เสียใจ) is the hurt, sorry, heartbroken kind of sad, the one you feel when something goes wrong or you regret it. It is also how you say sorry for someone's loss.
Sao (เศร้า) is a quieter, more general sadness, a low or melancholy mood without one clear cause. Both come out as sad in English, but Thai keeps them separate.
Knowing the difference helps you comfort a friend or describe your own mood accurately. This short Thai reel puts sia jai and sao side by side so you can feel which one fits.
