Asking to try before you buy

At a market or a food stall, this is the phrase that saves the day: can I try it. In Thai you can ask khaw long dai mai (ขอลองได้ไหม), which politely means may I give it a try.

At its heart is long (ลอง), the word for to try or to test, wrapped in the polite khaw (ขอ) for may I and the dai mai ending that asks if it is allowed. Vendors are usually happy to let you taste or test something first.

It works for food samples, clothes and all sorts of things. This short Thai reel shows how to ask can I try it so you can shop and snack with confidence in Phuket.
