The beach

Getting around
The bay is compact and walkable, but a car or scooter helps for reaching Bang Tao, Kamala and beyond, the coastal roads are hilly. The airport is around 25 to 35 minutes to the north, a real convenience for the northwest coast, and Patong's shopping and nightlife are only a short drive south when you want more buzz. Surin is at its calmest and best for swimming in high season (November to February), when the beach clubs are in full swing; the green season is quieter and cheaper but brings the strong surf the bay is known for, so it becomes more of a sunset-and-cocktails spot than a swimming one.
