Beyond the sand, Phuket opens onto some of Thailand's best day trips and experiences. Whether you want island-hopping, cultural half-days, adrenaline or a Muay Thai training camp, the choice is huge and easy to arrange. Island trips and the sea

Speedboats and ferries run daily to Phi Phi, Coral (Koh Hae) and James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay, while the Similan Islands — famed for diving and snorkelling — open only in high season. Most sea trips depart from Chalong pier or Rassada, so a south-coast base like Rawai is handy. Sea-kayaking through the bay's hongs (hidden lagoons) is a highlight, and Phuket has excellent dive centres for both beginners and certified divers.

On land

Ethical elephant sanctuaries around the interior let you feed and observe rescued elephants — choose no-riding, welfare-focused places over any that offer rides or shows. Add cooking classes, ziplining, ATV jungle rides, go-karting, Muay Thai gyms and cultural evenings. For self-guided adventure, our hiking and enduro trails map the forested interior with real GPS routes to waterfalls and viewpoints.

Practical tips and price feel

Book island trips through reputable, licensed operators — cheapest isn't always safest at sea, and cheap trips can mean overcrowded boats. In the green season, check whether national parks (the Similans especially) are open, as they close seasonally, and expect rougher crossings and possible cancellations. National marine parks charge a separate entry fee, often not included in the tour price, so ask up front. A shared speedboat island day trip typically runs 1,500–3,000 THB including lunch and pickup; private charters and diving cost more. Book a day or two ahead in high season, confirm your hotel-transfer times, and bring seasickness tablets if you're prone.
