PYC Yachting Festival Phuket 2026 (Festival of Sail)

The PYC Yachting Festival, also known as the Festival of Sail, runs from 15 to 19 July 2026 at Phuket Yacht Club in Chalong, and the 2026 edition carries extra meaning as the club marks its 30th anniversary. Across five days, monohull and multihull crews race out on Chalong Bay by day, while the club's waterfront restaurant turns host every evening. It is one of those rare Phuket regattas where you do not need a boat, a crew place, or any sailing experience to feel part of the week.

What the PYC Yachting Festival is

Held each July, this is a friendly five-day sailing regatta staged from Phuket Yacht Club on the south coast of the island. The racing side of things is straightforward: monohull and multihull classes head out into Chalong Bay for a day of competitive sailing, then return to base for food, prize-giving, and a party on the terrace. It is a community event as much as a sporting one, built around the club's home stretch of coast and its 30-year history on the water.

Because it lands in the middle of Phuket's green season, the festival has a relaxed, low-season feel. There are fewer visitors on the island, the sea is warm at around 29C, and the tropical light over Chalong Bay makes for good watching (and good photos) from the shore.

The five days of racing

The format spreads racing across the full run of dates, from 15 to 19 July. Each day the fleet sails a course out on Chalong Bay, with monohulls and multihulls competing in their own classes so that different types of boat race fairly against similar rivals. From the club terrace you get a clear line of sight to the action on the water, so spectators can follow the fleet as it works the bay.

Green season weather is part of the character here. Mornings and early afternoons are typically bright and sailable, with the classic short, heavy afternoon shower rolling through and then clearing. It is worth having a light rain layer to hand, but the showers rarely last long.

Evenings at the waterfront

The racing is only half the appeal. Every evening the club's waterfront restaurant hosts a social gathering, and the line-up rotates through the week: a Thai buffet, a BBQ night, and, to close, a prize-giving dinner where the week's results are celebrated. These evenings are the heart of the festival's atmosphere, mixing crews fresh off the water with families, friends, and visitors who simply came for the food and the sunset.

You do not have to race to join the parties. The social evenings are open to non-sailors, which makes the festival an easy night out even if you have never set foot on a yacht.

Coming as a spectator

Non-racers are genuinely welcome. You can watch the racing from the terrace during the day, then stay on for the evening social, and it is free to attend as a spectator. That combination makes it one of the more accessible entries on the island's sailing calendar.
