Overview

Run for the Reef 2026 is an early morning beach fun run held on the sand at Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort on Bang Tao Beach in Phuket. It takes place on Saturday 29 August 2026 from 6:00 to 9:00 AM, when the air is still cool and the light over the Andaman Sea is at its softest. This is a friendly, community focused run rather than a competitive race, so it suits families, casual joggers, resort guests and first time runners as much as regulars on the local running scene.

Entry is capped at around 200 runners, which keeps the beach uncrowded and gives the morning a relaxed, personal feel. Every finisher is welcomed back to the resort for a healthy breakfast and a few local extras, making it a full morning out.

The cause

A share of the proceeds is donated to the Oceans For All Foundation, a Phuket based marine conservation charity founded in 2019. The foundation runs several hands on projects around the island, including a land based coral farm that grows corals for relocation to damaged reefs, a shark nursery that breeds and releases young sharks, seagrass restoration work and coastal cleaning using eco friendly catamarans.

Running along the very coastline these projects protect gives the morning real meaning, and every entry helps fund the practical work of keeping local waters healthy.

Route and format

The run covers roughly 3km along Bang Tao Beach, an easy and flat distance that almost anyone can complete at their own pace. There is no pressure to post a fast time, and walkers are as welcome as runners. Because the course follows the shoreline, you get open sea views the whole way.

Registered runners receive an event headband and, after crossing the line, a healthy breakfast at the resort, plus local discount vouchers reported to include a Starbucks offer and a nearby buffet breakfast deal. Bring light running clothes, a hat and sun protection, and arrive before the 6:00 AM start to collect your race pack.

How to register

Entry is handled online through the Soft Events platform at soft.events, where you can find the Run for the Reef 2026 listing and book. Two price tiers have been reported: an early bird rate of 390 THB through 7 August 2026, and a regular rate of 490 THB after that. With the field capped at around 200 places, signing up early secures both your spot and the lower price.

Location and getting there

Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort sits on Soi Bang Tao in the Choeng Thale area of Thalang district, on the west coast of Phuket. Bang Tao is one of the island's longest and calmest beaches, just north of Surin and Kamala and part of the wider Laguna Phuket area. Phuket International Airport is roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive away.

The simplest way to arrive is by taxi, private car or scooter, with parking around the resort. Given the 6:00 AM start, set off early while the roads are quiet so you have time to park, check in and warm up on the sand.
