Overview

The Mama Daeng Beach Sauna day pass costs THB 490 and gives you a full day of wooden sauna, Thai herbal steam and ice bath sessions right on the sand at Khao Takiab Beach, with a sun lounger, towels, a shower and a locker included. If you only have a short window, a two-hour pass costs THB 300. There is no need to book for the sauna: walk-ins are welcome every day from 9:00 to 20:00.

Mama Daeng is a small beachfront spa under old shade trees at the southern end of Hua Hin's long beach, close to the Khao Takiab hill. The idea is simple: heat up in the timber sauna hut or the herbal steam room, cool off in the ice bath, then lie back on a lounger and look at the sea. Massages, body scrubs and a beach bar make it easy to stay for the whole day.

The Sauna, Steam and Ice Bath

The wooden sauna is a timber room giving dry heat just a few steps from the sea. The Thai herbal steam room uses lemongrass, kaffir lime, turmeric and plai, a traditional Thai blend that gives the steam a fresh, spicy scent. After each round you can drop into the ice bath, which the spa describes as a cold plunge to close every round, before resting on a lounger on the beach. Repeating the cycle of heat and cold a few times is the classic way to use a sauna day.

Massage and Body Scrubs

Massage is available daily from 9:00 to 19:00, and the spa asks guests to book ahead on WhatsApp so a therapist is ready. Listed prices are foot massage THB 400, Thai massage THB 450, oil massage or mixed Thai and oil massage THB 500, and coconut oil or after-sun aloe vera massage THB 700. A 40-minute full body scrub is THB 800, or THB 1,150 combined with a one-hour Thai or oil massage.

Beach Bar and Food

A small bar on the beach serves Thai food, snacks, smoothies, fresh juices, coffee and cocktails, with food available from 10:00 to 19:00. Happy hour runs every day from 15:00 to 17:00 with buy two, get one free.

Location and Getting There

Mama Daeng Beach Sauna is on Khao Takiab Beach at Soi Ao Hua Don 15, Hua Hin 77110. This stretch is south of central Hua Hin, close to the Khao Takiab hill and its temple, and is a short taxi, Grab or songthaew ride from town. The beach here is quieter than the stretch in front of central Hua Hin.

Good to Know

The sauna, steam and ice bath are open every day from 9:00 to 20:00, with massages from 9:00 to 19:00. Sun loungers are first come, first served, cannot be reserved in advance and are only for sauna and spa guests. On Wednesdays there are no loungers on the beach because it is Hua Hin's beach cleaning day, but the sauna and spa stay open as usual. Showers and toilets are for guests only, and card payments carry a 3 percent surcharge, so bring cash if you want to avoid it.

Mama Daeng also offers special rates for gyms, Muay Thai camps, golf courses, yoga studios and hotels whose members use the sauna and ice bath for recovery, and it hosts private events and weddings on the beach. For a relaxed, low-cost wellness day by the sea, the Mama Daeng Beach Sauna day pass is one of the simplest options in Hua Hin.
