A motorbike cafe and clubhouse in Phuket
Tank & Throttle Co. is a motorbike cafe in Phuket built for people who love bikes and the community around them. Tucked into Chalong on the island's south side, it is part clubhouse, part beer garden, part premium bike wash and part retail shop, all wrapped up in a relaxed, motorbike-themed hangout. Whether you ride a modern classic, a big adventure bike or a rented scooter, this is a place to wash the dust off, grab a cold drink and swap stories with other riders.
The idea behind Tank & Throttle is simple. Riders wanted somewhere that was more than a workshop, a spot where you could look after your machine and actually stay a while. The result is an air-conditioned clubhouse and an outdoor beer garden sitting right alongside a purpose-built wash and detailing bay, so your bike gets treated properly while you settle in with a drink.
What is on offer
The heart of the operation is the premium bike wash and detailing service, run for riders who want their bike cleaned and cared for to a high standard rather than blasted with a hose. Around that, the venue offers secure, purpose-built motorbike storage, a useful thing on an island where many visitors and part-time residents need somewhere safe to keep a bike between trips.
There is also a retail shop stocking gear and merchandise, and a fleet of modern classic motorbike rentals if you want to explore Phuket on something with a bit more character than the usual rental scooter. Guided motorbike tours are on the way too. Above all it functions as a clubhouse, a fixed meeting point for Phuket's riding community and a regular host of bike nights and events.
The Mad Wheelies wheelie school
Tank & Throttle is the home of Mad Wheelies Phuket, billed as Thailand's first premium wheelie experience attraction. In a controlled area on site, professional instructors teach complete beginners and experienced riders how to pull a wheelie on real Kawasaki Z650 bikes, with safety gear provided and every session built around the three-step progression of control, balance and confidence. No experience is needed, and a photo and video package is available so you can take home footage of your session.
Experiences run in focused 15-minute sessions and are priced by level. Clutch control for first-timers is around 800 baht, the three skill levels of control, balance and confidence are around 1,200 baht each, a couples challenge is around 2,300 baht, and the full experience covering all three levels is around 3,300 baht. Sessions are booked through Mad Wheelies directly, online via their TidyCal booking page or by phone, WhatsApp or LINE on 083 116 3160. Mad Wheelies also hosts one-off events such as its Longest Wheelie Night competition. See the Mad Wheelies Longest Wheelie Night event for the next date.
Food and drink
The clubhouse and beer garden are open to everyone, not just riders. Expect a laid-back bar with cold beer, a shaded outdoor garden to sit in and a menu of easy, familiar food to go with it, including British-style fish and chips. It is an easy place to spend an afternoon or an evening, and because it is air-conditioned inside and open-air outside, you can pick your spot depending on the weather. Families and non-riders are welcome, which makes it a good stop even if you are only along for the ride.
Location and getting there
Tank & Throttle Co. sits at 45/75 Moo 8 in Chalong, in the Mueang Phuket district on the southern side of the island. It is an easy run from Chalong Circle, Rawai and the southern beaches, and a straightforward drive down from Phuket Town. There is parking on site, and arriving by car, taxi or your own scooter is all simple. Chalong is the natural base for the south of the island, close to Big Buddha, Wat Chalong and the pier for island day trips, so it is easy to fold a visit into a day out. Many riders make it a first or last stop on a loop through the southern hills, dropping the bike for a wash before settling into the garden.
Good to know
The clubhouse and beer garden are open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00, and the bike wash runs Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00. Both are closed on Mondays. For the bike wash, detailing, storage or rentals it is worth calling ahead on 065 532 3011 to check availability and pricing, especially in high season. Entry to the clubhouse and garden is free, so you can drop in for a drink any time it is open. If you are interested in the wheelie experiences, those are booked separately through Mad Wheelies. It is worth following the venue on social media, as bike nights, ride-outs and one-off events are announced there and can change the atmosphere from a quiet weekday afternoon to a busy community night.
